With the establishment of our families first store in Wagga Wagga in 1904 R. F. Hiscock set in motion a family tradition that continues to this day. As a capable tradesman he and his employees were soon manufacturing horse harness, collars and saddles.

R.F., as we like to call him, was a shrewd businessman and trader. Always on the lookout for ways to improve and grow the Hiscock’s business.

By the 1930’s his four sons were working alongside him at the saddler’s bench. The business had weathered the advent of the motor vehicle as an increasingly preferred mode of transport, the decline of the working horses and bullock teams. R. F. could see that if all of his sons were to prosper in the industry, expansion would be necessary and to that end he encouraged his three oldest sons to leave Wagga Wagga and set up their own independent business. He would support them, but they had to be located well outside of Wagga Wagga. The sons chose Tamworth, Albury and Cootamundra with the youngest son staying on to work alongside his father.

The early 1970’s saw the 3rd generation of Hiscock retailers and saddlers come into their own with five entrepreneurial young business and tradesmen keen on expansion and diversification. By the end of the decade as many as eight stores operated under the Hiscock’s banner independently owned by four families.
